    GET MOOing



    It is hard to get to LamdaMOO from Manchester due to the Lag time in connections. If both Mac and PC users start off in MiamiMOO, you will all get the same first experience. We will give you a few very basic commands. The Exercise is simply to enter two MOOs, and create a character in each, different characters in each. If you want to socialise on the MOO, you will be given the instructions later to do so, but this is voluntary. Some people love MOOs, spend a lot of time on them, other people don't enjoy the role playing activity. If you find that you don't like it just do enough to complete the exercise and LOG OFF <@QUIT> If you find that you do enjoy the activity, get building, programming, players with female names tend to get looked after on the MOO, so it might be worth logging on as a female untill you are established. Changing gender identity is quite a fun exercise anyway. So here we go, but remember,

    be careful out there - things can turn WEIRD!!!!

    Exercise

    • When you open your MOO in your Client server, type "Co guest" in your input window, and press enter

    • Next you need to request a character, think about this, a name can't have any blank spaces in it,

    • In the following, you will replace{character_name}, with the name you wish to be called

    • Replace {email_address} with your email adress. When ready, type:

        @request LEO for Story@fs4.psy.man.ac.uk

    • As long as no one else has that name, when you have done this you will get a confirmation question seeking to verify that your character request and address are correct. If so it will tell you to type 'yes'. Do so.

    • You will receive an e-mail in 5 minuites or 5 hours telling you your password. KEEP THIS. The password is case Sensitive, so you cannot just remember the letters. You can always change your password to something more memorable later anyway. There is little point staying connected now, log off until you recieve confirmation of name and password

    • To leave the MOO, type @QUIT

    Check:

      Record your Character name and password and place in the return form at the bottom of the page.

  • Now do this for MOOtiny, (not forgetting to enter it as a new file in your client programme)
