Basic Concept Of The Mailing List

To use Mailing Lists all you need is an email address and the ability to send and receive Internet e-mail.

The concept is very similar to that of a distribution list, where one message is sent to many people. The differences are that:

    • there is an e-mail address to which you send an e-mail message to join or leave the mailing list (the administrative address which may be a person or a program)
    • there is another e-mail address (the list address) and whenever you or anyone else sends an e-mail message to it, the message is sent out to everyone on the mailing list. If the list is moderated (someone checks the messages) then this process may not be as quick.
