    Introduction

    A Web page can of course just be an electronic version of any paper-based page. It can consist of just plain text. For many purposes this is more than adequate. Certainly putting in gratuitous hypertext links and graphics is a waste of time and effort. However, the 'plain text' is not making the most of this new media. As John December says in his CMC Magazine Hypertext Style

    "If we don't explore this language of hypertext - and discover and invent rhetorical techniques with it - why should we publish in hypertext at all?"
